Norwegian Special Envoy Erik Solheim met with Chief Negotiator of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Anton Balasingham in London on 23 June. The discussions lasted from 9:30 AM until noon, followed by lunch. Also present was Adele Balasingham, member of the LTTE delegation to the peace negotiations, and Ms. Lisa Golden, advisor at the Norwegian Foreign Ministry.
Norwegian State Secretary Vidar Helgesen met with Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe for discussions in London the same day from 6 to 8 PM. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister G.L. Peiris, Minister Milinda Moragoda and Secretary to Prime Minister, Bradman Weerakoon. From the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, Mr. Solheim, Special Envoy Jon Westborg, and Ms. Golden also participated in the meeting.
A central focus in both meetings was the discussion of issues relating to interim administrative structures. The two meetings were frank and constructive, according to the Norwegian facilitators.
